Recommend a mechanic for a Timing belt on a ST1100 Pan European?

    Hi Folks,

Can anyone recommend a good mechanic to do a timing belt replacement on a ST1100 Pan European on the South side of Dublin? The bike is a 2001 with only 19000 miles on it but I am pretty sure it has never been done. My mechanic told me he wouldn't even entertain the idea and didn't know anyone who would.
Any help would be appreciated :)
    Thanks.

It can't be that difficult. It's a belt not a chain. Easier than valve clearance adjustment on most 4 cyl bikes I'd say.
The worst part may be removing and storing all the plastic! You could make a start by spraying some penetrating fluid on the crucial bolts - radiator, headers, front cover.
(Sorry, don't know any mechanics up there)

Give Gem Motorcycles in Donnybrook a shout. Dave is great there. Used them a few times.

I always go to Robbie in mototechnic.ie, he specialises in Italian bikes, but does everything. He's near the KCR if that's any good to you. You can always give him a call and ask, sound guy

Thanks for that. I usually go to Robbie but will have to try elsewhere for this. 🙂

I'll give them a shout and see what happens. Any idea how much a job like this costs? I know the rough price for a car but the motorbike is a different animal. 🙂

Didn't think it mattered but it is a mangled emoji for some reason. Suppose to be :)
Seems to happen when posting on the phone.

FWIW the ST1100 engine was designed, allegedly, by Honda Car division not Honda Bike. Not many bikes have cam belts. A car mechanic with experience of Civics etc. might be able to help you but take all the plastics away first.

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.
