So heres my story... I was working part time and doing a course close to 10 years ago. When I applied for the course they told me if you are in receipt of social welfare you can still get paid and do the course. I was doing casual / XOs at the time. I thought this meant I can still do casual dole and do the course. After the course ended my payment stopped. Social welfare said I owed them 8k because I was fraudulently claiming casual dole for almost a year. Apparently I should have gone onto BTEA. I was told that I was too late to appeal.
I got 1 or 2 letters after but didn't hear anything for 9 years. Now I am back on social welfare and they are looking for me to pay back the 8k. I dont have it and am terrified of going to court etc over this.
