    Hi,

I have Volvo S40 07 Petrol and my local mechanic told me that clutch is about to go so if I got parts he will replace it for 150 euros. He also suggested flywheel replacement because in couple months it could go too.

Just shopped around the web and the price of the clutch kits varies from 100 to 300 euros.
Just confused what exactly do I need to buy.

Also, should I change flywheel too? I mean that's another 300 euros for that alone.

    Thanks

Most mechanics would much rather get the parts themselves, as they know what best to get and the good stuff at a good price. It would annoy most if you arrived in with parts to change. Some garages however would also be making a few bob off the parts ( coz it does actually take time and expertise to order) and some garages add a few bob on the sly- ie inflate purchase price.

If they supply the parts then it's their responsibility if you have a failed clutch in a few weeks time, if you supply the parts then they'll legitimately be able to charge you again.

Would a petrol car really need a new flywheel? I wouldn't have thought so unless the car has a dual mass flywheel (which I would be surprised at but you never know) and even then I'd wonder. Of course if the clutch is really worn then that could damage the flywheel.

I didnt know that - will let them buy the parts.
