Is there such thing as a 5 seater Ford Smax?

Looking at renting a car and for a "van" they are saying "Smax max 5 pax or similar". Any Smax I have every seen here has 7 seats; do they manufacture them without the 3rd row as a 5 seater as well?

On other sites I am getting "VW Touran" and "5 seats"- again, I was under the impression that a Touran was a smaller 7 seater, smaller than e.g. A Seat Alhambra or a Ford Galaxy.

Can anyone elucidate? Are they actually 5 seats, or are they simply saying that as the 3rd row is likely too small for 2 adults?

    Thanks.

Originally the S-Max was available as a 5 Seat, but that didn't last long. The Touran was available as a 5 Seat up until fairly recently.

Neither really sold in 5 seat so they were dropped from sale.

We rented a galaxy few years ago in England and the 3rd row seats wer fine for adults thought the s max was similar size thers the c max which is 5seats and the grand c max which i think is 7seat but wud be suitable for kids really

Yeah I think that it will be grand so. It's 6 people but mainly kids.
Rentals will be newer models anyway, you'd hope!!

3rd row in an S-Max is ok for adults. Less headroom back there than in the Galaxy, but the seats aren't on the floor like some smaller 7 seaters and there's enough leg room to be comfortable. I'm 6 foot tall and have traveled from Ennis to Dublin in the back row of ours with no problem. You lose almost all your load space with the 3rd row up, though, so you wouldn't be carrying any significant luggage for all 7 people - maybe that's why they list it for 5 occupants?

No guarantee you'd get an S-Max (with rental companies it is always S-max or similar). So if it says 5 pax, I wouldn't bet my money on getting a seven seater.

Rent a 9 seater. Opal Vivaro or similar. Far more comfortable and loads of luggage space.

Maybe the third row is removable and they've removed them?

I had this recently, asked in SIXT (Germany) and they said it was too difficult to classify as the seats at the back aren't really suitable for adults and if you use the seats there isn't any room for luggage.

People would turn up and say, there's 7 seats but where do I put the f*cking luggage.

So you may or may not get a 7 seater:

One of the lads in work got an E-Class and it came with rear facing seats. (He booked a Skoda Octavia Combi or Similar)

Best you could do is ring the depot you are renting from and ask them whats possible, they might not even have any 7 seaters.

Hertz list the Touran as 7 seats, as well as the Zafira, VW Caddy Maxi Life and the VW Carravelle (9 seats) with the standard get out clauses on availability etc. but looks like a ring to book job rather than internet..
