Guys I don't know if it's been done here before but what would you think to a meet up of the regular users here that are interested in watches?

It's something that is done in the UK , America and allover the world for that matter.

The are called Red Bar events. Where collectors bring some of their watches to show others and speak about them, let others look at them and get a bit of wrist time with them.

Basically it would mean meeting in a nice quite hotel bar and get a little area for ourselves to have a few drinks and talk watches and let others look at our collection.

Numbers would have small at first just until we know what we are actually doing but I would be happy to organise something. Might be a nice thing to do once a month?

There hasn't been a meet up in a while. There have been a couple of good ones down the years. Due to various reasons I missed them all. Feck. >-<

If you wanna organise one I reckon by PM rather than publicly is the best bet. I'd be happy to be the PM guy.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Yes I was thinking that as you don't really want to advertise were there is going to be alot of expensive items in the one place.

So it was done before? What kind of format did it take?

And there will no watch snobbery! Does not matter whether you have Rolex, Seiko, Tudor, casio, Invicta, Omega, Rado, Citizen Oris or any micro brands.... just no fakes

Have been to a couple over the past few years and they are always a very enjoyable event. Last one with a good turnout that I attended was well over a year ago, so overdue a catchup with some of the good folk that contribute here.

We were very lucky last time that not only were there an incredible selection of watches from posters here but John McGonigle of McGonigle watches brought a brand new Tuscar for us to look at  Their latest Ceol repeaters are >€200,000

Would be up for a get together, hopefully I can make the agreed date!

Really like the idea of a meet up,would be great to put a face to the great watches posted on here, learn the personal stories behind them and especially if Wibbs attended to get a great history lesson :D.

I understand the numbers would have to be small at first, so it would be only to those who post regularly, and i am relatively new around here, but i would really like to be considered as i regularly visit this section to see the great watches and also love reading the stories behind each of the watches,i would love to post more often but i do not collect watches so i don't want to keep posting the same one all the time.

Also i owe great thanks to everyone on here as they prevented me making a costly mistake buying a franken Omega, and instead got me to open up to consider other watches and do the research myself that eventually led me to find the Bell Matics and end up with for me is the perfect watch and also revived my interest in watches that i had lost as i hadn't anyone to share with,
    Thanks.

Whatever happens let's just make sure that we're all on time.

Sounds good. Would this be in the Big Schmoke?

I'd reckon in Dublin City centre alright as most(I think?) of the interested parties would be close enough to that.

I would be interested if I am in Dublin that day. I travel a lot for work at short notice though so I probably wouldn't know till the day.
