Anchoring points for car seats

I'm browsing online looking for a car seat.

I have an 04 Toyota Corolla. The car has isofix brackets in the back seats.

A lot of car seats using isofix has a top tether for anchoring to the car.

I checked high and lo in the back of the car and also in the boot for anchoring points but I can't find anything.

I rang the car dealership but my issue was a new one for him.

Are they any anchoring kits for installing yourself or getting a mechanic to do? Would it be an easy enough job?

I googled but nothing came up for me on Irish or UK sites. Some Australian forums came up for me and it seems as if it's a common issue over there and they can install anchoring points.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve used a few different car seats with isofix fittings in three different cars and they just locked into the fittings between the seats, I’ve never had to anchor at the top

Thanks for this. Browsing online on online shops and reading product information, a lot of seats (nearly all of them) fitting in with isofix require a top tether.

Can you post a link, you may be reading it wrong?

you just anchor at the isofix points.

for younger seats, you can thread the seatbelt through the back of the seat also, but not really necessary

This is one car seat I was looking at

I looked at a few seats online and many with isofix require top tether.

Best thing to do is go into a specialised shop and have a chat with someone there or even online chat with someone like Tony kealys
The seat in the back of my car now is secured by the two isofix points and also a seatbelt comes into play so maybe that’s what they mean by anchoring

That's something I would be interested in. A car seat with isofix and the seat belt threaded through the back. From what I've read online on many seats it's
    isofix and top tether,
    Or seat belt

I sent a message to Britax asking about the advanasfix and they replied back saying it must be used with isofix and the top tether at all times.

This was another car seat I was looking at. It's isofix and top tether.

What kind of car seats did you use?

Hopefully I will get a chance to go shopping next weekend. I'd would like to do some research and obair baile on seats first.

I'm currently waiting for a reply back from incarsafety. I might start a chat on Tony kealys later or tomorrow morning.

Newer seats all come with top tether belt or support leg. This is to increase safety by prevent the seat from pivoting when it is latched on the isofix point alone.

So, if the car doesn't have the top-tether anchor points, get a seat with support leg, exp. MC TobiFix. Or preferably an ERF.

The alternative is to use an isofix base with a leg.

looks to me like it just loops around the headrest.

that is not a tether point, it literally wraps around the rear headrest

does your car have rear headrests ? if yes then you are sorted.

as far as I know, your car either has isofix points installed in chassis from manufacturer or it doesn't
can't be retrofitted from what I recall

Go into local Toyota dealer. They should fit it for you.
