    Diesel 1.22 a litre today
    Petrol 1.33 a litre today.
Girl in the shop said it's to match the Plaza up the road who have 15c a litre off if you purchase a Supermac meal.

Might be worth posting that in "bargain alerts" thread.

    www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=346

Personally I wouldn't use Applegreen even if their fuel was 99¢
I say that because my neighbour (after a bit of a battle and the threat of legal action) recieved a cheque for alleged damage caused by their fuel... allegedly.

Also that same petrol station seems to be having regular maintaince carried out on their tanks for some reason.

    Why is that?

I find applegreen poor for mpg. People say all fuel is the same but for some reason Maxol and Topaz works better in my car.

I agree, my mother, who hasn't a clue about cars, says that maxol seems to be better than GreenApple (that's what she calls applegreen)

    Personally I use topaz.

    But never Applegreen

I'll call that out as absolute and utter bullsh1t

I have previous knowledge of fuel.

With the exception of marketing additives added by some companies, there is absolutely no difference to fuel sold in different brand garages.

Fuel in Ireland comes from refineries in Whitegate or Pembrokeshire. Its all the same, next ship gets the next load.

It then goes into huge tanks in the port and again, in most cases, the next truck gets the next load. Doesn't matter what name is on the truck or what station is getting it.

But still some eejits make up their bar stool stories.

Call bull all you want but he recieved a cheque from the manager of the applegreen, he was to sign a non disclosure, but he started such a scene they let him leave without signing it.

It may not be all their stations, but my local Applegreen seems to be having their storage tanks regularly being serviced.. me thinks there is an issue with how water proof they are.

Anyway.. I won't buy from any applegreen.

    Petrol.

Never noticed any difference with any of the major petrol stations. When I fill up with them - Diesel - every week, they all last the same as far as I can see and there's three or four I'd use on a regular basis depending on what route I take home - Topaz, Maxol and Applegreen.

Complete and utter bull. A local manager would not be passing out cheques.

I think you are being told a big porkie

    I saw the cheque.

Obviously, he made up the entire story, put his van out of action for a few days, flushed the fuel system, and replaced filters, lost out on business, then forged a cheque, fabricated a story, just for shyts and giggles.

    It all makes sense now.

Edit. And he had the van towed in the middle of the night, just to add more drama.

Fill up in Applegreen regularly never had any issues.I also fill up in any Tesco, Texaco, Top, Topaz/Circle K, Emo or Maxol which is cheapest and most convient for me and have never had any issues which any of them.

I think Applegreen buy from various different suppliers whereas the likes of Topaz and Texaco have a nationwide distribution network as I regularly see unbranded tankers in their forecourts so that might be why standards may vary for some.

I reckon it's you making the story up, because a single fill of fuel simply cannot cause such an issue unless wrong fuel was put in.

None of the brands deliver themselves. Its contracted out to two companies. Reynolds and another.

Brands do sometimes own the physical tanks and they are used as branding vehicles, but any fast growing brand such as applegreen or some of the smaller brands, would get delivery in an unbranded tanker.

Also rural areas may see the same tanker deliver to 2 or 3 brands - each delivery is in separate compartments in the tanker

I'm only telling you what I know.

If you don't want to believe me, so be it.
But I had to taxi the guy around a few times while this saga unfolded.

I have no reason to disbelieve his version of events, given the parts of it I personally witnessed.
Ie. The van at the mechanics being flushed, the cheque recieved in compensation, and a grown man ranting at another grown man.

But .. what's an eye witness account worth.. nothing apparently.

The long and the sort of it... I won't get fuel at Applegreen, because of what I've seen, and of what I believe.

Agreed. I never had any damage from their fuel personally but I did notice mpg to be worse in applegreen than topaz/texaco. It was diesel in my experience. Once I learned about the difference I just stopped going there unless I was stuck.

What about the tankers with washed diesel? Does that come from Whitegate and Pembrokeshire too?

Well... playing devils advocate.. the green diesel may have come from Whitegate / Pembrokeshire (prior to have been run thru kitty litter)
Bear in mind.. green diesel is of a lower quality than regular diesel.

Green has a min cetane value of 45, whereas regular diesel has a min cetane value of 51.

    Fyi

Oh I perfectly understand that but I was getting at the illegal refineries where they use acid to wash out the marker in the fuel

I never had any damage from their fuel either, but I still avoid them, based on personal knowledge.

Its mad how this thread had divergered from what was a bargain alert.

    And it's probably my fault.
Maybe it's time to be locked.
I'm sure the offer is over by now.

    Let's all move on.

    I avoid the place too.
The sister was advised by a mechanic in a main dealers not to fill up there. He reckoned that a lot of the cars coming to them with fuel related problems filled up there regularily.
