NI could get EU subs after brexit

    Seriously, that's a complete nothing article. The chances of the North getting anything from the EU after the Brits make a balls up of brexit are none to nada. Do you seriously think they could start dishing out EU funds either ERDF, ESF, CAP of otherwise when they have voted to jump ship? What kind of message would that send out to other countries who will be looking after their own interests?

    Lets call a spade a spade here, the brits will make a balls up of brexit, Gove will partly fund Ag for a few years up to 2022 to soften the blow when he pulls the pin and Ag is sold down the river to ensure the financial interests and institutions in London are looked after and remain.
    If the likes of Airbus are making noises and looking at pulling out of Britain, making 14,000 workers redundant do you honestly think any Ag minister, either tory or labour will not sell off Ag to placate larger financial and vested interests.

    I think you'd be better off trying to prepare for life without subs than pinning your hopes on some whimsical comment or article in agriland.

    I think they mean the EU Fund which were part of the peace process, these were promised anyway.

    It's unlikely this will happen but what's even more unlikely is that subsidies will stop completely. 9/10 farms would to go bankrupt and turn to rushes were direct payments to stop. You underestimate the growing power the environmental lobby has in agriculture now. No subsidy means the environment will take a back seat, which couldn't be tolerated.

    Payments will go on production, large herds larges subs. The remaining money is to be made up by environmental schemes (whatever they are) and grants .

    From the article

    Northern Ireland Peace Programme, which focuses on reinforcing peace and stability by fostering reconciliation in Northern Ireland and the border region, has a total budget of €229,169,320, of which the EU contributes €229,169,320);

    How much of the 230m is already spent? Or how long would it last at current BPS levels?

    Down here BPS is worth approx €1Bn a year, how does Northern Ireland compare?

    If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.
