A cat or fox mooching about will usually trigger the magpie's 'morning call'.
    Me no likey either.

Remember if you see one you have to see the other one. Failing that simply wave at the magpie.
If you don't you'll have bad luck coming your way. That's a fact!

Got woken up at 6 a couple of mornings ago from a tap tap tap on the window. Opened the curtain and it was a magpie. You don't expect that sound when you're living on the 3rd floor.

My dog is trained to "see 'em off!" at the mere sound of a magpie. She is very loud and once heard they never come back. They hate noise; banging pan lids under trees where they nest gets them leaving fast.

    ...
7 for a secret never to be told .
    Eight for a wish,
    Nine for a kiss,
    Ten for a bird,
    You must not miss.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

I lived in London and rural North Cork. Honestly London was calmer in the morning.
In Cork the dog was barking, the ducks were quacking, hens clucking, wind howling, mother bellowing, magpies and crows flittering.
I used to escape to London for piece and quite.
