Week 1 Basis Issue

    Hi,

I recently started a new job. After my first week I was issued a week 1 tax credit certificate from the Revenue and thus I am being taxed on a week 1 basis.

I previously worked in a job for one day in early May and that was my only employment for the previous 4 years due to study. I have not obtained a P45 from this job as it cannot be issued until next week. The job status is active on my Revenue account. Is this the reason why I am being taxed on a week 1 basis?

If I get switched to a cumulative basis in the coming weeks will I recieve a lump sum back through my wages or will I have to apply for any tax I paid on a week 1 basis at the end of the year?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Once your P45 is submitted to Revenue, you & your employer will receive a cumulative certificate of tax credits. Your pay will then reflect any refunds due.

    Hi OP

If you only worked for one day this year prior to this job, call Revenue and ask for a cumulative cert to be issued. You will barely have used any of your credits and rate band, there is no need for you to be on a Week 1. Call Revenue and see what they say.
