If you call into your Social Welfare office and apply for a Basic Supplementary Payment to cover you until you get paid. You are entitled to this if you have no income until your first paycheck. Good luck

    196 is SWA.

My mistake MugMugs, in the big smoke ye would rarely hear someone use the expression "moving to a different county". It might be useful to hear where the whole year inn got paid from, the office for his address before the move or the one for the new address?

I am still waiting on a job offer but I was told I 95% have the job just one last meet and then will be given an offer. This job is actually in the same county but 63KM from my current location and will need to get a house or drive everyday so you can see why I would need the funds till I got paid.

The situation is as follows. You are entitled to Basic SWA until you receive your first paycheque or up to the 30th day after you start work, whichever comes first. If you are getting Rent Supplement you might be able to continue to receive it on the same basis. The cost of travelling 630KM per week could run to between €50 to €100 and you might, depending on your circumstances, be eligible for a travel supplement for the same period.

You should let the office paying your dole know when you are starting in plenty of time so they can arrange to pay you the correct amount up to the correct date, - otherwise you could be overpaid and when they receive notification from your employer you would be asked to refund the overpayment. When you've done that, go to the CWO with your contract of employment or clear details of when you are starting and when you will receive your first paycheque. Assuming you start on a Monday, you will be entitled to 4 days JA of €132 on the Tuesday paying you from the previous Wednesday to the previous Saturday. Depending on the CWO, you will be deemed entitled to Basic SWA of either of the following: €196pw from the Monday that you start for a maximum of 30 days totalling €840, or €196 from the Tuesday for a maximum of 29 days less the €132 dole totalling €680.

Your situation will get complicated if you start on a Monday late in the month and only get about a weeks wage in your paycheque. Your entitlement to SWA will have stopped but you will still have to make it through to the end of the following month. In this case you may be eligible for an Urgent Needs Payment, but this is discretionary and would take into account the amount in your paycheque, your savings, access to credit etc.. and this could be paid subject to you refunding it afterwards. Hopes this puts your mind at ease and things work out for you.
