We have recently had high THD Thermoduric bacteria in our milk test. It was 700. What could be the cause for this and what is the best thing to do to try and lower it? Any help appreciated. Thanks.

How often do you hotwash and how often do you use a descale wash? Is tank washer getting all of the tank cleaned. The heads on washer probes can sometimes be damaged and all of the tank may not be getting cleaned properly.

Had 1 nearly 2000 here next was less than 100. Done nothing. Possibly had a few cows bulling one night there was a downpour and teats not cleaned properly in the morning.

I normally do a descale wash and wash through the pipeline and it sorts it. It's just a bit of dirt somewhere that the milk is passing over.

I thought Thermoduric was a sign of dirty teats in the cows? It normally is at its lowest in Summer and highest in early Spring and late Autumn with cows going in and out through dirty gaps?

Make sure youre not leaving the hot wash get cool by circulating too long and that you rinse line with coldwater asap after hot wash, thd bacteria multiply at a serious rate around 40 to 50 degree mark

Yourself and Whelan are both correct.

We hot wash every second milking and descale every couple of weeks. Maybe we should descale more often it might help the problem

I was told that dusty conditions can also cause problems.
