Looking for some general advice from people who have been there and done it.

Planning on upping sticks and moving to England in the next few months.

Need some advice on how best to get a job there while still living and working in Dublin. As ideally I would like to have a role before I move. What do you suggest are the best ways?

    All advice is welcome.

    Thanks.

England is a big place so where you planning on? London, Liverpool, Birmingham etc

Also what area, IT, medical, construction etc

What quals and experience as well have you got?

    Will help people guide you.

Agency's are good over there and you should be at least have phone screens done

I would go to the various job websites, and apply for jobs.

I would make my cover letter really clear. Something like this:

    Dear person's name

I would like to apply for [X position] as advertised on [Z website].

I am currently working for [Y] in Ireland and will shortly relocate to [X's location]. I would be available to start work in [1 month or whatever].

As you can see from my CV, I have G year's experience blah blah so I am quite suitable for your role.

I am available for a Skype interview, or could travel to [X's location] to meet you face to face.

    Etc.

So it's worded in a way which makes it as easy as possible for them to not really care that you're currently in Ireland.

In the center of Manchester cant think of the exact addresses, there is a big recruitment agency they had hundreds of job in their window. Why not go over for a day or two an look around before you go over, flight are cheap as low as 25 euro and stay in an air bnb or a hostel.

Having a contact and somewhere to stay is important until you get employment and a steady salary. I know accommodation in London is expensive and scarce.

I'm moving over soon, although I might be doing it rushed have job offer from a uk company wasn't too hard to get IT role. Didn't even need a cover letter, had another 2 company's interested in me too without one, did interviews etc, all generic sent in C.V's. Even had my Irish mobile number and address on it. Hard stuff from Ireland though is getting a uk bank acc, national insurance number, for me anyway! Flew in and out in a day for interview one too did the second on phone, and got the offer then. I'm doing that all in about <2 months from 1st interview. Anyway good luck with the search!

Thanks all. Some good advice above.

Aiming to go to Manchester or surrounding areas.

14 years in various financial services operational and project roles. Need to sharpen up my CV and interview skills though as I have a habit of 'under selling' myself.
