So I have been working in a contact centre for the past 5 months and today got pulled in for a meeting, evidence that I hung up on 18 customers in a week and made over 20 outbound time wasting calls to an answering machine to call avoid, said I will be in for a disciplinary meeting within 48 hours, is this it?

    Maybe. But maybe not.

Time to go back to all those great business plans you had.

    Yep, pretty much.
That kind of behaviour in a contact centre on an ongoing basis constitutes gross misconduct.
In particular call avoidance by outbound calls is frowned upon as it not only forces work you are available to take on to a colleague, it is also an indication of fraudulent practice and any quality team reviewing the case would usually pull every call and note form CRM for review.

I’m sure you well know the answer.

Thing is though after it i was let back out on the phones for the day and same tomorrow, if it was so bad then why risk business reputation by leaving me back on the phones

Perhaps they thought you might up your game a bit. Possibly a chamce to show your capable.
Did you continue the sloppy behaviour or step up your game ?

If that is all true? I don't think its the job for you

If you want to save your job ask them to give you another chance and knuckle down.

You'll have the disciplinary to explain yourself and the fact you wasted so much time avoiding calls. Then management will have a meeting upon themselves and call you back to let you know you're fired. Judging by your post history it's a bit of a no surprise that it's happened tbh.

It's a call centre, you knew what you were getting yourself into. Don't like it, quit, don't be a dick to your colleagues which is all your doing!

If you were on my team and I found out you'd be straight out the door headset still on your head!

Of course you should be fired!

You really found a great way to show them you are worth more.

    Would probably earn more

Yes most likely you will be let go. Small bit of advice for you any job expects a certain amount of work for payment. That's it. You don't get paid to just turn up and arse around.

Getting paid 9.55 an hour is an insult in most jobs, never mind one where you are expected to talk to 60 customers a day and earn just over 70

I got minimum wage for 3 years in my last job. In that time I took on more tasks and gave it my all. Denied request for a pay increase multiple times. In fact someone was actually given a supervisor position over me without an interview or anything. I was very good at my job and one of the few who knew how to do it. I didn't like it so I left for a higher paying job.

You know the pay when you take the job. If you don't like it you don't take it. If you're there long enough and not getting more money you leave. If you don't think the pay is high enough it's not your place to willingly refuse to do work. You're just taking the place of someone who would do the work.

A call center is generally an unskilled, low paying job.

And yet you seem utterly incapable of doing even that job.

I hear this all the time. Being great at a job a fella walking in off the street could do with a half hours training doesn’t make you a ceo. You need to be good with communication and leadership. Willing to stay a bit late or come in a bit early if it’s needed. Show that they can give you the keys and be able to sleep at night not worrying you are out on the booze and not going to open up in the morning. Show you can be trained. Show that you won’t stick your foot in your mouth in front of people who don’t need to know what you are planning.

Now think about that time you went to the boss and said

Hey boss why did Jimmy get made supervisor when I wire 100 plugs a day on the new drill we are making and he only wires 97

Given the example you gave in your original post it seems like you're being grossly overpaid mate.

You're being paid minimum wage for extremely unskilled work. Tough sh*t, that's life. Unskilled labour equals low wages. Welcome to the real world.

I hope they let you go and hire a person who's currently unemployed and struggling and they get the opportunity to get a leg up!

I don't doubt you hear it all the time but I guarantee I'm not the kind of person you're referring to. I know what it takes to be a good employee. I was the only one coming in on bank holidays to get work done or staying back when I could. The company was just awful. There was no training opportunities or anything. Didn't even have manual handling training and I lifted stuff all day.

Happy in my new job though, plenty of training and new tasks to take on.

Was this call centre job for the telecommunications company whose bill you were refusing to pay a few months back?
