Single glazed windows

I have a sunroom at the back which is basically in bad repair and needs rebuilding. It has a transparent corrugated roof and single glazing. It is an awkward structure and not exactly airtight at all but also gets very hot in the sunshine, despite only single glazing. Any builder I've asked for a quote only wants to put in double glazing which is a waste of money if the structure is not airtight. Does anyone know where one can get single glazing?

as part of any upgrade works, air-tightness and double glazing could be carried out

DG will make it even hotter in summer

In many cases it will not be cheaper to go with single glazing. In fact I think it will be more expensive! The cheapest windows out there are PVC and all PVC frames are made with DG in mind these days so it would have to be some sort of special order to get single glazed PVC frames if you can get them at all! That leaves you to order bespoke timber or aluminium frames with a single pane which are going to be more expensive than DG uPVC.

This is all dependent on the frame of conservatory of course. In a more general sense if you put in an opaque roof of some sort (ideally with some insulation) it will have a warming effect in winter and a cooling effect in summer as well as reducing the glare.

You can get window film to add to reduce the overheating element but it will make things colder in winter too. interior reflective blinds would help with the overheating too....
