Moving From UK To Ireland

Hi all, this is my first post and I don't really know if this is the correct place for it or not as there are so many areas!

Me & the Mrs are moving from Essex to Ireland in the summer but need to move our possessions over. We currently live in a 2 bedroom apartment, 1 bedroom practically as the 2nd is only used for laundry and airbed when guests come over! We don't have some of the massive things to transport such as a bed, wardrobes, white goods but we will have some furniture including a dining table, 3 seater sofa and the beloved TV. We're really stuck with removal companies, some are quoting a small fortune for what doesn't seem like a massive amount of stuff.

Can anyone recommend any UK to Ireland removal companies please? It would be good to hear of some experiences as you're never quite sure what reviews are real on some of the review sites!

When we went the opposite way all those years ago we used Careline. They do have a UK office so may be worth an enquiry

Just out of nosiness, what part of Essex?

If it's Harold Hill in Romford they might know my cousins. Gas craic so they are.

Thanks for the recommendations, keep them coming if there are any others.
The TV is definitely worth taking. Regardless of whether we took the TV though there's way too much to fit in our car so in that sense the TV doesn't add too much to the cost of moving. The cost of not taking everything and buying it again in Ireland far outweighs even the most ridiculous quotes we've had so far.
    It's Southend we're moving from.

I moved to Ireland from Liverpool for University. My Dad had a van, we packed my things up (admittedly not much since I was only eighteen), into the van and onto the ferry for a long sail to Belfast. Been here ever since. Enjoy Ireland!

Incidentally, I think there's a whole bunch of van hire places. No idea about costs and charges, but it might be cheaper than conventional shipping.

    Welcome - almost!!
Have you somewhete to rent already or will you be moving in the hooe of storing your stuff safely until.you find somewhere?
Whatever you do, from my personal experience stay well away from 'two men and a truck' .

Why dont you "just" rent a van in the UK and arrange to leave it a few days afer arrival back in the airport in Ireland - there are places that do this. I cant imagine trusting my lifes valuables and personal memoribilia (again) to some bloke in a van and waving it goodbye and hoping I will see it all again - or that it won't be flung down a flight of stairs when they think Im not looking or just smashed or dissappeared. Irrepracable is permanent. DIY it and rent a van for a week - it'll be muscle and character building and an experience!

Careline and ship it as pallets if possible.

Will involve creative packing and a lot of bubble wrap.

But a lot cheaper than a removals company like Two Men and a truck.

Sell the TV and buy a new one under warrantee when you get here. Its insides may not survive the trundle, braking, sea journey and road ramps. You will still have a new TV with new guarantee at the end of it and a far less hassled trip. Some things do not travel well when they get all shook up.

We moved from Italy to uk last year and used a uk based company called vanone, they were dirt cheap and the service was absolutely perfect. They were recommended to us by a mate. I was concerned about how good their insurance was but thankfully I didn’t need it so maybe have a good look at that.

OP we have an excellent "man with a van" crowd. google man with van. Some will have jobs that take them to the UK and will be glad of the return trip.

There's a load of Irish companies in England who specialise in relocating home, grab a copy of the Irish Post and look at the back pages, ring around and get some quotes.

Been a while since Romford was regarded as Essex, it’s in a borough of Greater London these days init. You don’t see the “Welcome to Essex” sign until you get to Brentwood

Unless you have an unfurnished place to move into here in Ireland, not much point in moving your stuff!
If you do, don't worry about it!

Thanks everyone for the replies. It looks like we'll be investigating Careline and pallet shipping, although we also have 2 removal companies we'll investigate.

I've only been driving for 18 months and never driven a van before. I don't even think my license covers me to drive a vehicle of that size but either way it's a baptism of fire I don't want. Sadly the Mrs doesn't drive yet (despite my best efforts!)

I kept the original box my TV came in so if it made it here from China, I'm sure it will survive the Irish sea ;) I also work in IT so have plenty of other bits to take over, a couple that are coming with me in the car and the rest that will be sent with everything else. We have a lifetime of possessions so we can't just get rid of everything and start again, as tempting as that may be.

    Cheers for the help guys!

Sorry for the late reply. We went with Careline, couldn't have been better.
