I just bought an Audi A3 1.9 tdi and wondering what the expected mpg?

First I filled it with 20euro at 1.27 a litre and I got 230kms off it

Then I filled it with 25euro at 1.35 a litre and got 310kms

Can somebody calculate what mpg I got on both occasions please ? Cheers

    Fag packet calculations...

first run was around 40mpg second around 48.

To be sure you need to fill the car to the brim - drive X amount of miles then fill it again - take note of how many litres it takes to fill it again and go from there.

You got 15.75l for €20 - and travelled 230km, which works out at 6.85l/100km

You got 18.5l for €25 - and travelled 310km, which works out at 5.96l/100km

Given the small sample size you're not going to really know for sure, but it would appear that you're using between 6 and 7 litres every 100kms (between 40 and 47mpg give or take)

Thanks for the replies, so let's say I'm getting 43mpg on average. That's a bit low is it not ?

What type of driving? All motorway at 80km/h? Or all urban sitting in stop-start traffic?

Motorway at something like 100km/h would return really good efficiency, better the slower you drive. And urban is just bad all round.

Honestly, just drive the car as normal and enjoy your new motor for now. Keep track of your fueling and review after a few more fill ups. It takes you a while to get used to a new car anyway, and perhaps you're just enjoying it and using the go-pedal more.

Based on your not-so-scientific method of determining economy, it sounds like you are averaging around 44mpg ... which without knowing your driving style or the type of roads you drive on, sounds decent enough as a very loose "combined" mpg figure.

I had a 2004 1.9 TDi Audi A4, and was getting around 40-45mpg. While i like to be economical when I can, I still drove it fast, it was the 130bhp model.

Now it's hard not to be spirited in my 530d MSport, but still managing 40mpg.

Snap. Had the exact same car and was getting the same economy figures (usually worked out at 42/44mpg when brimming)

I too upgraded to a 6cyl but stayed with Audi :D

Wanted to go Audi, but the model I was looking for was out of my budget. next time round will be a 2012 A6 3.0tdi Quattro.

Ya the first fill was a lot of urban driving where As the 2nd was a bit of motorway and a lot of main roads so that's why it's higher mpg.

And I do like to put the boot down as times so I guess I'm not doing too badly.

There a stainless steel exhaust system on it Aswel with twin pipe back box , would this be addin to the fuel being used ?
