Hi. I'm thinking of buying a 1.6 vw golf bluemotion. 2010. Has anyone any thoughts on this type? What should I look out for. Seller is looking for 10000 for it which seems high. I've noticed the alloys are extremely scuffed. Would that be an indication of misuse by previous owner? Thank you in advance. Paul.

We had the 1.6 tdi from a model newer. We upgraded from a 1.9 tdi mark v which I sold privately for 5,500 as an 8 year old car. While the 1.6 had newer tech and was easier on diedel, the mark v was a better car in practical terms and way nicer drive.

11k for an 8 year old mark vi seems very high.

Mk6 1.6 has issues with EGR doesn’t it?

Mainly after having the VW dieselgate fix, on the plus side VW normally offer goodwill against a new EGR valve as a result.

To be fair the EGR's were never great in them, Dieselgate just made them even worse, in fairness though you're right, they will replace after the update under warranty.

I'd agree with the Mk7 idea too, the 7 is infinitely better and with that kind of budget you are so close to one, you'd be mad to pay that money for a Mk6, they're way overdue a sharp drop in value anyway.

Hi, thank you all for the replies. I have it a test drive. Drives ok. The stop/ start needs getting used to. However the spec is very low. No cruise control, no steering wheel controls for radio etc. Alloy wheels very, very scuffed. Car seemed to idle very roughly when stopped. I also noticed a very strong smell of exhaust fumes around the front of the car outside and in the cabin. I'm not sure now. I'm really stuck on this type of car. Mentioned all the above to dealer, told her I'd think about it if issues were sorted and a new or better set of alloys were included. I told her the car is probably only worth 6000. She said she'd see if the issues could be sorted and her back to me. It's a very clean car otherwise.

I doubt there's middle ground between 6k and 10k tbh and the car sounds a bit tired. They are prone to injector failure too so the rough idle would have me concerned too, I'd be inclined to leave it.

There are hundreds of these cars out there for sale, you can well afford to walk away from this one. There is no way they are going to let a car they are asking 10k for, go for close to 6k. It also grinds my gears that some of these dealers don't bother their ass fixing obvious issues when preparing a car for resale. It sounds like they just took it in as a trade-in, might have given it a quick rub of sponge and stuck it on their forecourt for resale straight away. Maybe they are waiting for a sap to walk in off the street and not notice the issues and then pay top dollar for it too?

Loads of good golf's about to choose from. 10k is nuts for that age. Walk away and shop around.

    Great advice folks. Thank you.

I'm having a look at this one tomorrow...

That's more like it. A year newer. Only potential issue is the 3 previous owners - so ask them about that.

Looks in great nick from the photos. It's the highline model with enough toys to keep you happy such as auto lights, wipers and cruise control.

I'd be looking for another €500-€250 off with probably a 6 month warranty for a 7 year old car. Be prepared to walk away :)

Note that 3 previous owners would make you the 5th owner.

Drove it, loved it, got 800 euro off plus 6 months warranty, plus got him to put a new timing belt in. Oh, and got 3 grand for my own car. Sorting insurance as we speak. Delighted!

    Thanks guys,

    Paul
