    Hi,
So at the age of 44 Ive finally decided to get my license, on lesson 12 but only 5 EDL's signed off, not getting out in between lessons so has taken me a few to get to the point where my instructor feels I have reached the required level for the lesson.
But now Im wondering should I be changing instructors, friends that are driving have said I should be doing more.
When I was reading the EDL logbook it says about my EDL log in, but when Ive tried to log in its not coming up with anything on my details, is this something the instructor does? My log book is getting signed, so not sure what else needs to happen?
Also when Ive been reading the lesson plan there isnt anything about parking, 3 point turns, hill starts etc, when do these get taught or are
they not needed to pass the test?

    Thanks for any help given!

Your instructor will need to upload your completed lessons to the RSA web site before they'll appear there. Some instructors get a bit lazy and wait until the end of the syllabus before uploading. Yours may be taking you for a bit of a ride if you specifically purchased 12 "EDT lessons" and he's not signed off on all 12, though; the instructor's job is only to give the lesson, and once it is done, he must sign off on it as being complete regardless of your progress. He can write notes about his evaluation of your progress and what you need to work on in your EDT booklet, and he could refuse to give you further EDT lessons until he feels your driving is up to standard, but he can't give you a lesson and then at the end of it claim that you haven't learned it properly and refuse to sign off on it unless you pay for additional lessons from him. (If you are unable to practice outside of lessons due to your circumstances, though, then purchasing additional lessons will probably be necessary anyway if you want to pass the test, so do keep that in mind...)

The turnabout and reverse maneuvers should have been covered in lesson 5, and hill starts should have been done at some point in the early lessons; if your instructor has not yet covered those, he's not properly following the lesson plans. Parking should have been covered in lesson 5 as well, but it is not specifically on the test (aside from being able to pull up at an empty kerb from time to time and not failing miserably when parking up at the test centre on your way back, of course; you could get dinged if you committed a fault during those maneuvers, like driving over the kerb or colliding with another car or something...).

    Thanks DennyK,
So the lessons need to be on the RSA site before I can apply for my test?

Have only been paying a lesson a week, cant afford a lump sum at the moment.
Its purely been driving at the moment, lesson 5 was signed off last wk and turnabout and reverse wasnt done, only done 1 hill start but thats coz I stalled at lights on a hill.

I have had problems doing my right turns, so that took a while and now its 1st to 2nd at a junction at lights going round the corner, slight panic at trying to do all I need to do an find the gear stick. But I can change gears no problem on the straight.

Will have a chat with the instructor on my next lesson and if nothing changes then Im off in two week so think its time to look for a new instructor :( Had thought as they had good pass rates and they were recommended by a friend I would be okay

Yep, they need to be uploaded for you to sit your test, so make sure to poke your instructor if he hasn't been and you're getting towards the end of your lessons.

If your instructor has just been recommending additional lessons in between your EDT lessons, that's probably kosher, then; like I said, they can refuse to continue to the next EDT lesson if they feel you need more practice first, they just can't sell you an "EDT lesson" and give it to you and then at the end refuse to sign off on it.

If your instructor isn't working out for you, there's nothing wrong with changing. Doesn't even mean he's not a good instructor, really, he just may not be the right one for you personally, so don't feel bad about it.

If you have any way to get some practice in between lessons, that would probably help a lot as well; like any other skill, proper car control does take practice, and for a new driver, an hour every week or two isn't usually going to be enough to really learn it quickly.

    HI,
where of course you should change. If I read your post correctly he is trying to get you to change gears whilst taking a corner.

Also the rules re the EDT
    3) A person may only undergo each of lessons 2 to 8 of Essential Driver Training for Car Drivers if he or she holds a logbook issued to him or her on which an instructor has signed and stamped the pages relating to the immediately preceding lesson as set out in the Schedule.

(3A) A person may only undergo any of lessons 9 to 12 of Essential Driver Training for Car Drivers if he or she holds a logbook issued to him or her on which an instructor has signed and stamped the pages relating to lesson 8.”.
therefore it is only necessary to have completed the previous lesson to do the next. At the end of each one hour lesson, the instructor MUST stamp the logbook irrespective of the outcome of that lesson.

Found out my lessons have been logged! The site asks for your first name which is how I had been checking it, but seems my whole name has been used, once I changed it, my lessons appeared! Happy days.
Had another lesson this wk and explained how had been over previous lessons and have to say that was a much better lesson, feel much much about it now, but also realising Im not getting anywhere without more than 1hr practise a week so its back to working out where I can make savings to afford more lessons
