Academic Qualifications For Paralegals

I am curious to know the ideal academic qualifications for paralegals, specifically the following:

Would a minor in Law be deemed sufficient by most employers? This would be as part of an Arts degree where there are more credits dedicated to another subject. As a result, there aren't enough Law modules for the degree to be accredited as a full Law degree (LLB, BCL etc)

Without that full accreditation is it much of a hindrance to securing employment as a paralegal?

AFAIK, and it's limited experience of mediumish sized criminal firms, the paralegals tend to be quite young and I wouldn't be entirely sure of their qualifications. I resisted answering this when it first came up but seeing as no one else has chimed in you can have my very limited experience. Given the IILEX course can be done in one year I'd say a minor in law would be grand but I expect it depends on what sort of firm you want to end up in. I know of one paralegal in a top firm who was qualified as a lawyer in two other jurisdictions. Now she didn't stay a paralegal for very long but it's what she did while doing what ever cross training she needed to do.

Firms want very fast typing or court experience.

Hello, I have a question and can't seem to find an answer anywhere online. My boyfriend is finishing law school right now, BUT in Croatia, and we are planning on moving to Ireland but can't find any information on what jobs exactly could he do there. He has no legal experience but his english is excellent. If anyone here has any information on what kind of jobs non-Ireland law graduates could apply for, I would be so grateful! ( and also -  could he work in public service, since he's not Irish )

Yes he can work in the Public service as of 2013. Immigration might be an area to look at.

Well he will have third level education and so should have certain I.T. skills, administration skills in addition to his excellent English he should be able to apply for assistant manager roles in retail, hospitality etc. There is a labour shortage and a lot of firms will have good training courses for newcomers. There may be some scope for offering translation services etc
