    Hi

Myself and wife and 2 heading abroad in a few days. Portugal.
This will probably be our only trip overseas until next year. Will be for 3 weeks.
Have 2 children under 5 also. I have medical insurance already via work.

Can anyone recommend a travel insurance company?

what do you need travel insurance for?

If its a few days out, then its unlikely the kids are going to pick up a deadly disease in the meantime that will stop them travelling.
Insurance can cover lost luggage, but if not taking a connection or intercontinental flight, then its not all that likely to go missing.
If theres a delay caused by the airline, then they are liable to reroute / rebook and hotel costs AND compensation under EU law.

Maybe one of you will die and you need a body transported, but seriously.....
If its to cover a relative dying normally only parents and siblings covered maybe grandparents. Uncles and cousins and who knows what are not covered.

so again, with medical covered on the double (through work and the EHIC, although the benefit of that is limited in Mediterranean countries) then what more do you need.

What about if somebody needs to spend some time in a hospital after an accident? That’s the worry I always have

Travel insurance costs so little and the peace of mind is worth it. I can't believe people are happy to take that risk.

OP all the health insurance companies do travel insurance too, otherwise consider your car/home insurer as they generally give a discount based on you having other policies with them.

emergency hospital care is covered on the EHIC (up to whatever the home country offers) and the OP already has medical cover.

if you mean needing to stay longer at your destination due to medical reasons, that also might be covered on the medical insurance rather than needing a separate travel insurance.

It's not just the accident. It's repatriation to Ireland if needed and the costs.
What if you cause an accident and are sued?
It's flights, lost luggage, stolen items.
Try your health insurance company or the likes of blue insurance or get cover.
