Looking for old electric wheelchair motors?

I'm looking for the motors from an old wheelchair or mobility scooter to use in a robotics project. I was wondering if anybody had an old or even broken electric wheelchair type stuff lying around or would I find something like this in a scrap yard? Probably not as they only take cars?

You might be able to get parts from those who sell such items and may get trade ins.

I know windscreen wiper motors are often used as they are simple and come from car scrapyards and they do have surprising power, and no they do not go forward and back like wipers!

For larger projects some people took apart battery forklift motors and controllers.

The Dublin hackerspace modified an old mobility scooter. It is also has a workshop etc:

Try to get the matching controller and batteries etc. as the controller is often more difficult to source than bare motors
