Hi, I had noticed a group of black kittens in the housing estate near mine over the past month or 2. I assumed someone owned them, until I saw one had been knocked down and asked a fella who lives on the road about them.
There are about 5 of them, approx 4-6 months old, one is definetly pregnant, another might be. I have been feeding them since Saturday, and trying to get through to a cats charity, but no call back. I understand it's summer etc.
They are a bit wild, but after a few days one will jump all over me, and 2 others will be petted whilst being fed.
I have 2 cats at home , I lost a cat Jan due to her weak heart, and would think about taking one of these cats. However, i'd like if someone from the cat rescue world could possibly help me as I cannot bring one home just yet- I'd prefer the cat to have a vet check before i brought it home, (FLV etc) and I couldn't leave all those other cats to breed , and no body seems to be taking care of them at all.
I'd say all except one would require trapping also. Thanks.

What area are you in, so that someone may be able to suggest if there is anyone local to you that might be able to help.

Your local council should have a TNR scheme - they will call out with the traps, catch and neuter them (which is a must), and release them back. Great that they are getting friendly in just a few days. Fair play to you for looking out for them.

Hopefully there will be a TNR scheme nearby. Before I left Kerry, one of the smaller animal charities were offereing "Fix it for a Fiver" with 2 local vets and I trapped and took in the two ferals I was feeding.

There are no words for people who do not spay and neuter cats... When I was bringing my three over on the boat when I was moving house, the man asked if they were neutered.. they had had huge problems here and sorted it ! No way did they want more entire cats..

Wonderful of you to be doing this.. bravo!

Ask on Feral Cats Ireland, on facebook. They are not a cat charity but rather an umbrella group and a lot of small-scale, local TNR groups follow the page.
