Pulling right under braking

    HI -

got the steering alignment done on the van after it failed on it on the CVRT - have not driven it since bringing it home probably 1km away, took it for a few miles this morning in advance of its retest tomorrow and it is pulling right under braking. noticeably so.

The alignment is only change i can think of. The only other clue i can give is the right front wheel is warm but the left front wheel you can barely put a finger on it because it so hot. and that not after long or hard driving at all.

    Any help appreciated.

Will get it jacked up at lunch time but IM guessing its a coincidental to the alignment - probably a stuck caliper - probably the left side (hot) one is stuck on and thats why it lurches right when braking. if not that then the right side cool one is stuck open and the left side hot one is doing all the work. but then i would expect the pull to be towards the left but its definitely towards right - so i will approach the inspection with that in mind.

Sounds like the left caliper is seized in a slightly closed position with the pads gripping the disc creating a constant light drag, hence the heat. Then when you apply the brakes only the right caliper moves, pulling you to the right.

Would you have a go at popping off the calipers and cleaning them up a bit? Have you a brake winder?

yes in fully intend to do that- had to do another job first on the headlights so it will be tonight before dark i clean up the caliper. could be slide pin or corrosion in or around the pad tabs id say.

Yeah, if you're lucky all it needs a greasing on the pins

hope so - i have copper grease and ceratec, can of brake cleaner, wire brushes etc so im hoping a clean up will sort. I havent had to do any thing to the fronts since i got it so no harm in getting in there and having a peak

Outside pad was sticking one tab had a bit of corrosion holding it so off with caliper good spray of cleaner, off with pads, brass brush on all the contact areas to clean up and then lube these up. All moving nicely again. Took her for a quick spin and hit the hammers a few times. Seems to be back to normal.

    Thanks all
