Get your old one reconditioned. At least you will know what you got. Any second hand one can be on its last legs. Buy cheap - buy twice. ;)

It took me about 3 months to get one for a friend's car at the end of last year - they are very scarce and getting a good one is the problem.
I was lucky to find one , by chance , only a few miles away. A guy who used to sell a lot of Corollas had one 'on standby' - but he eventually decided to sell it.
How did your own fail - it seems that if got early they can be sorted easily enough. The one I got had 2 bearings and a synchro ring replaced and has been perfect since - and the guy who sold it to me said that , if got early , this usually solved the problem.

Had mine reconditioned couple of years ago - approx 150 euro including new, genuine parts and transport to and from Poland. Excluding labour (pulling gearbox out of the car and putting it back in). No problems since.

Realistically, you’d be looking more like €700 locally.

    What?

It would cost alot more than 150 euro to even ship a gearbox to Poland never mind then fixing it..

Hardly be worth it for an 06 car

Those cars keep on going though. What mileage is on it?

We had a few corolla vans with the 1.4 d4d in the last company I worked in. Some of them seen 600k km, others were wrote off due to accidents

The bearings are over €100 from toyota + the labour and a new clutch and gear oil and in the op's case probably a synchro as well so €700 wouldn't be far off.

So what was the point in him posting his price, its irrelevant to anyone else. It's a 700 euro job as has been stated by others

I never disputed that it wasn't.

In fairness that would be a question for him and not me as to why he posted it.

Also you don't know the OPs situation, there could be an off chance that he might know someone driving to Poland that may transport this for him. Unlikely but there is still a small chance.

Not a friend. One of many one-person-couriers carrying customer's goods there and back again. 50 quid both ways. Gearbox repairers in Poland sourced bearings from mr T themselves and fitted them - took them 2 days in total. 100 notes.

    Not a rocket science. :p

    Question asked, question answered. :p

And it's perfectly relevant - anyone who wants go that route - can go, no problem.

She's sitting at 189k atm .. any idea what she would be worth as it sits .. car is perfect apart from the gearbox

But needing ah gearbox ... What you think it be worth

It devalues more than the cost of fixing the gearbox

Based on my sale of a functioning one I guess somewhere between 800-1k assuming the milage you were quoting is in km.

If I was you I'd fix the gearbox and motor on.

Personally I'd still have my one if I didn't leave the country
