Engineer cant find fibre wire

So I ordered Eir broadband there, checked to make sure it was available (it is) and the engineer showed up at my house. I figured it was simply a case of him removing all the Virgin stuff and plugging the Eir stuff in, but seems I am wrong?

Basically the engineer can't find the fibre wire and is suggesting I tear up my skirting board to look for it, which is not a prospect that delights me.

Anyone done this? any tips on where I should start looking?

    Thanks

Yes, you were wrong. Virgin cables are just for virgin.

The wire isn't fibre, its copper. If it were fibre he wouldnt have any issue finding it as it would be recently installed and there'd be an ONT (white box) on the wall.

Find out where the cable enters/joins the house. Trace it as far as you can. That'll hint where the master socket was. Cable should be nearby.

But my friend gets fibre over the airwaves from Imagine :)

OP - you are looking for a phone line, not fibre.
