NCT query - BMW spare wheel

    Wondering if anyone can assist.

Purchased a 2008 BMW e60 last year. It's time for it's first NCT with me as owner.

The car originally came (when new) with run flats however the 4 tyres on it at the moment are not. Consequently the car never came with a spare tyre - no need the run flats etc.

Is there an issue now regarding this as 4 non-runflats are on the car and no spare?

    Thanks.

No once there's no spare tyre present it won't be tested, won't fail without one.

If there is no spare the car must have a sealing fluid and compressor.

All Bms seem to get the run flats taking off lately. In saying that they are quite hard on the road. Any car that comes into our place for work on it and needs tyres the customers always want non run flats

No need to worry. I removed the runflats on my old E61 and it went through NCT with no issue.

I'd say that has little to do with them being a firmer ride and a lot to do with non run flats being cheaper.

Never had the nct lads check my boot for a can/compressor and passed it 3 times.

Mine passed a few weeks back and I didn't have sealing fluid or compressor.

It failed on the headlight washer unit flying across the test centre:D

Thank God it was a visual and car was under warrant

Yes you are quite right there. I never said it had to do with that. I just stated they where harder. Everything comes down to money but what I did state was that when we inform customers that they need new tyres they always go for the non run flats.
I see it daily with the amount of BMW’s in our yard. And personally I don’t rate or like the run flats

Didn't have either in my car and went through nct fine without a spare wheel. No comments from tester either.

What Cinio tried to say is car won't fail if there is no spare wheel and no gunk
NCT is not concerned with that as you may have roadside assistance.
Either way it is no a security risk they care about.

Just to clarify - no issue or mention made of the spare wheel.

Failed on a worn ball joint though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I changed to non run flats early in my E60s life. Nothing to do with money but all about the way the car now drives.
Still have the original tyres with plenty of tread but they’re now 10 years old so I’ll scrap them.
