Looking to organise family trip (2 so called adults and 2 adult children) spending 2 or 3 days in each of San Francisco, Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

Anyone have knowledge of these cities as to which areas would be best to look for hotels?

    Many thanks

Stayed in San Francisco and Vegas this time last year. Stayed in the Marriott near Union Square - great location and would recommend it. Great diner just across the street (which the cable cars go by) and plenty of shops, restaurants etc. Can't recommend enough that you book Dylan's tours - it's not cheap but well worth it - it does the city, bridge and then Sausalito (sp) and Muir woods. Also book well in advance for Alcatraz.
In Vegas stayed in the Bellagio, - anywhere near there on the main strip will be fine so go with what suits your budget.

If you really must do LA (and I really think it's not worth the hassle) I'd really suggest staying in one of the beach towns nearby. You need a car in LA anyway so why not improve the holiday experience.

All the 5* hotels in Vegas are lovely, usually some great deals available. I would say stay on the strip, not all the hotels are there so be careful when booking.

SF hotels are very pricey. Stayed in the lovely Hotel Niko but got a good deal for that on hotwire. Still among the most expensive US cities I've checked out hotels in.

For LA - I would stay in Santa Monica rather than downtown/Hollywood/Beverly Hills.
Lots of nice restaurants, shopping etc all within a pedestrianises area in the centre.
It’s easy to get a bus or metro into the other areas.
Loads of nice hotels in SM.
Not sure if you are staying in any other areas in between but if you have a few days to spare - Santa Barbara or Laguna Beach are really lovely coastal towns to chill out in.

We stayed in the Cosmopolitan in Vegas - beautiful hotel but it’s gone pricey enough now since we were there in 2011.

In SF - I’ve forgotten the name of the hotel we stayed in. It was on Union Square so was perfectly located.
Just had the 2 days in the city so walked around a bit, did Alcatraz (highly recommend) and cycled over the bridge to Sausalito for lunch (again recommended).
If you have a bit of extra time and like wine the biggest recommendation I could give would be to drive an hour north of the city to a small town called Yountville for 2 nights.
Amazing restaurants and wineries around that area.

Main point about last vegas (not sure about LA) is that the hotels prices might different a few times whether you are coming on a weekday or weekend, so make sure to check that out

Also in Vegas most of the hotels are charging the resort fee, double check the amount when booking because you might end up paying more for the resort fee than the actual hotel

stayed in the https://www.theplatinumhotel.com/ last year in vegas and liked it alot ,very good price, no casino in the hotel so its good for kids , 3 - 4 min walk to main strip , massive rooms with everything in them you could want .
