    Hi folks,
Looking at fabia for partners car. Only does short trips and less than 5k km per year. Confused re which engine config to go for. Also would really like air conditioning and it only seems to be available on style model?

Might also look at used pcp rates. Anyone any experience of one? Have ten year old Honda jazz with low enough mileage and just sailed through nct to trade.
    Thanks,
    Mick

The base 1.0 normally aspirated engine is probably the one to get if she’s not in a hurry. They’re not bad actually.
The Fabia is pretty grim though. If an Ibiza isn’t much more money then it would be a much nicer car, plus it’s a generation ahead of the Fabia now.

Seat aredoing €2k scrappage on the Ibiza, but the Jazz would be pretty easy to sell privately.

Might be worth looking at a Kia Picanto or Rio as the 7 year warranty would work well with the mileage.

    Thanks Colm,
The jazz has 86.5k km on it and new tyres and taxed till January. I wonder what it be worth in private sale? Few places seem to be offering up to 3k scrappage. Honda quotes me that over the phone.

I would say you would get €3500 privately easily.

Keep in mind you can get a discount from most dealers for not trading a car in (note that scrappage discounts usually mean you need to actually trade a car in)

Would hybrid not be a good option??
Like stick with Honda or Toyota.

Well it depends on numbers really. I'm trying to keep a monthly payment below 200 a month. Hopefully get as new and low mileage as possible. Like Honda to be honest. If I could sell the car over coming weeks and get 3.5 might be a good option.

Why not keep it? She ain't doing big miles and Honda are one of the best out there.

Fabia has been getting top accolades since revamped model in 2015 and its a well proven small car at the very top of its class with the ibiza, polo and fiesta.

You need the style to get ac if that's a requirement. The ambition spec should come with this these days....

Keeping it makes loads of sense.

    @micks_address : here's some first hand info :
    - helped my sister to buy a 1.0 fabia ambition : she wanted a small size car with good interior space , and the value for money choice was fabia ( ford fiesta is great to drive but very small space inside, polo was 10% dearer for a fancy front badge and same mechanics, anda new corsa was waay out of budget, although she scrapped a 01 corsa )
    - scrappage deal is a good way to lower the initial deposit ( choose scrappage if you don't have enough deposit money, or choose 0% APR if you have enough deposit and don't want to pay interest )
    - she got a work car after a few months, so i drove her car for small journeys : kinda underpowered for me, but more than enough for 30-60km/h city driving
    - she took ambition version ( the A/C was extra 500e if i recall - we counted on the mild irish weather and skipped this 'feature' )

I think the ác is another 1200

These things are subjective of course, but for me anyway, apart from the first generation which was quite neat (in hatchback form anyway), each subsequent Fabia has been made to look dumpy and ill proportioned so as to justify the price jump to a Polo. On the interior, there’s nothing wrong with the quality, but again it appears to have been dumbed down so as not to compete, and the standard seats are just terrible, like being at mass.

The likes of Autocar and Autoexpress will ever dare say any of this though, such is the hold VW Group have. Needless to say the Irish motoring press are just delighted to have something free to drive.

The Kias aren’t exactly joy machines of course, but at least they’re nicely styled (subjective again) and are likely to be much less likely to have issues than the Skoda is, that’s before you consider how much better the warranty is.
