    Hey all

So hubbies getting a job soon, yay!
Im on disability and we have 2 kids, his salary will be 43k a year gross

Can anyone help me out on the disabilty means test? (Its been a few years so ive no clue how much hell be taxed etc so no clue where to begin with his take home, and a paycheck is 2 months off or 3, he doesnt have a start date yet)

Will I lose all my payment or will I keep a little bit?
Alos Ive read about people being long term out of work being able to keep there payment for the kids for a while after going back to work? Can anyone explain how this happens?

As your husbands weekly gross income will be €826 per week then there won’t be any SW payments you can avail of (your DA will be gone).
You will be able to keep your medical card however for 3 years.
Make sure that he is using all of your family’s tax credits so that he maximizes his income.

thank you for the help. its been so long and hes never had a salary even close to this so im way out of my dept here.
Im about 85% sure i transfered all credits to him when we married a few years back but he was let go like a month later so i guess well wait till his first paycheck and well go talk to the tax office and make sure.

Hopeful for a good turn round now after a very hard decade for our family

maybe a silly one but will i get to keep my travel pass?
Medical card arent an issue i have a permanent one due to my health and kids and hubby just got new ones too.

And can i ask if you know what exactly tax wise we should be asking to have xfered to him etc? or extra credits he might be entitled to as ill never be able to work again due to illness so im at home al the time. I was hopeless with tax issues when i worked and ive been out over 7 years myself now so im even more clueless

You will loose your travel pass if you loose your DA.

There is a scheme now whereby people on DA who get a job which means they will lose their DA get to keep their travel pass for 5 years, but I don’t know if that extends to people who’s spouse getting a job means they will lose the DA. Best thing is to ring DA 1890 927770

    Hi
Hope i can help i was in same situation unfortunately we do not encourage people to work I got a promotion to approx 42 k a year. The sad news is you will get nothing . I get 45 Euro a week more than my neighbours that are not working for the past 20 years. My take home is 630 a week for 2 adult and 2 kids but cost me 100 a week to travel to work and mortgage is 100 so taking this 2 figures out we get 430. Social welfare is 415 with fuel allowence and rent would be 30 with hap so 385. Plus I lost medical card she lost her travel pass and gets no disabilty payment . Someone getting 45 k a year should be better off but your not. Sorry for the rant bit since I moved up in my job I constantelly lost family income and because I am not married i also get no tax credit

Have you ever paid PRSI contributions, if you have 260 paid in your lifetime you should look at applying for Invalidity Pension which is not means tested.

Is there a way to check this? If i have paid enough, i havent worked since 2011 tho is that an issue? I did work pretty solidly from 2006 to 2011, but i was also on illness benifit for two years so would that have used all my prsi?

meant to add altho i havent worked since august 2011, i was on maternity leave from october 2011 to april 2012, then illness till april 2013, then mat ben from april 2013 to october 2013, and IB again from then until october 2014. and been on disability since april last year

So im guessing im not able to apply for invalitity because i dont have prsi contributions in the last 2 years?!

The easiest way to find out is to simply apply. If you don’t have enough then you won’t get it.

If you call into your local office or ring Invalidity Pensions in Longford , just ask them to check on the computer how many PRSI contributions you have paid. If you have 260 you should apply for Invalidity Pension. You would have got credits for your time on Disability Allowance which will cover you once you have the 260 paid contributions.
