Self Employed,Pregnant,Not enough PRSI contributions.

    Hi i am currently self employed, my business is new and regestired, i work with animals so my job is very physical, i am due my baby in october but i will not have 52 weeks of prsi contributions payed because my business is new therefore i am not entitled to maternity benefit,am i entitled to any other payments? as i said i work with animals so my job is physical and dangerous and i will not be able to work as i get bigger and closer to my due date . Any advice would be great! I also dont have contributions from previous jobs as i am young mom to be !

    Hi Kacey. As soon as you want to go on maternity leave after your 25 week of pregnancy you can apply for the maternity benefit and if you get a refusal letter from the dept and a letter from your GP stating that you are unfit for work due to your pregnancy then you can go to your local CWO and ask to be considered for a SWA payment until you can return to work.

    Were you working prior to being self employed? I believe you can use contributions from 2015/16/17 if you were.
