We watch so little TV that we didn't know that Virgin Media were switching off the analogue signal.

So I'm looking at Saorview. We're in Firhouse so the signal from 3 Rock should be good enough for an indoor Ariel. But I'm not sure if I need to buy a box or not.

    We've got a Sony KDL-42W653A.
I've been told it will support Saorview and I've been told it won't. (One guy wanted to sell me a bunch of stuff; the other didn't seem to give a damn if I bought anything). Does anyone know based on the specs below?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Supported Audio Formats: LPCM, MP3, WMA
    Supported Pictures Formats: JPG, MPO
Supported Video Formats: 3GPP, AVCHD, TS, WMV, Xvid, AVI, MKV, MOV, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, Motion-JPEG, PS

    Multi-channel Preview: picture-and-picture (PAP)
    TV Tuner Presence: Yes
    HDTV Tuner: Yes
    Digital TV Tuner: DVB-C, DVB-T, DVB-T2
Conditional Access: Common Interface Plus (CI+) slot

It will work with Saorview, yes.

I assume you're aware Saorview is just the RTE, TV3, & TG4 channels?

plus an information channel about Saorview which few bother with :D

Buy a cheapo indoor UHF aerial from your local Euro shop and try it. If it works, great. If not, no big deal. Don't get conned into buying any kind of indoor aerial that needs mains power, is "boosted" or "amplified". Likewise beware of anything that claims to be "digital" or "HD" or whatever. An aerial is an aerial. If it is getting a usable signal it will probably work.

Tesco, Deals and the likes of Power City sell cheap indoor aerials for less than €10, in most cases they will do the job. Make sure when tuning you have it set to digital, most of the Sonys from a few years back have a digital or analogue setting when searching.
