Anyone got any reviews on the above car?

I'll be in the north next week and saw 2 or 3 that I was going to look at

2012 zetec or titanium models, mileage is approx 50-65k Miles

One I liked was an estate model, are they much heavier on diesel than the hatchback?

    Any other suggestions?

    Budget is 8k roughly.
    4 doors
    diesel
    2011 upwards

The older shape model is better to drive with better handling. The engine, in it's highest powered (113b.h.p.) guise, is excellent - powerful enough, quiet and frugal. No major mechanical problems reported. Look for one with a full service history.

    Eh, no it's not.

    Thanks for the replies,
The zetec has 15,000 miles less than the platinum
Same money though, what's the main difference besides cruise control and a nicer looking dash.

Oh, indeed it is. I am referring to those manufactured between late 2011 and early 2015 only. The current version featuring the 1.5 litre diesel has a much improved suspension set up giving much better handling.

    too good to be true?

Something about the mileage and price has alarm bells ringing?

    It is a Cat N damaged/repaired car

I'd forget it on the fact the Dealer hasn't mentioned it in the advert

Condition is more important than spec. I reckon.

Why compromise on either, there are hundreds of these cars out there for sale, not to mention across the Irish Sea.

If you've nothing better to do you could spend weeks or even months scouring ads and flying to the UK and back looking for the most perfect Ford Focus from a huge stock available right enough.

You'd probably spend more money in travel and time than you'd save but you'd end up with THE best car.

Or you could just buy a good one with an acceptable spec, at a decent price, somewhere that isn't 8 days ride away by yak.

Your being a bit melodramatic and a little bit sensitive there Henry.

People import used cars from the UK every day, basically because they get more car for less money than here and it's nowhere near the big drama your drawing a picture of. Thankfully the Irish don't have to accept poverty spec cars these days if they don't want them and obviously see value in buying from the UK, judging by the number of imports being registered here every month. If basic a to b transport that you don't care much about is your main objective and buying a car is seen as a chore then by all means buy the first one that floats your boat. One person's definition of acceptable spec is different to another's.

Nothing wrong with importing at all. The trade stuff coming this way from the UK isn't very high quality overall and "swimmer" is a regularly used term for inferior stock bound for Ireland. I absolutely accept that anyone can import privately though and save some money in the process, although it's still not easy to find a gem in a sea of cars. Lots of people make expensive mistakes.

My main point is tiny spec. differences aren't or rather shouldn't be the deciding factor in a purchasing decision for a used vehicle. In the real world who cares whether a car has manual a/c or electronic climate control with zones?

Condition (which includes a lot of stuff) is paramount. Everything else is secondary.

So in the above example a really tidy Zetec might be a better buy than a less tidy Titanium, despite having less toys. That applies to both Irish and UK sourced cars incidentally.

    Lots do.

Of course condition is paramount but as Bazz said, these cars are hardly rare and finding one in good condition with some spec shouldn't be too arduous.

Yes but something like dual zone c/c (maybe a bad example) is a bit of a joke unless the car has separate sealed compartments. Warm air meets cold air - the result is lukewarm air. People can tie themselves up in knots on that sort of thing and miss something much more significant.

In the example above the Zetec does indeed have some spec. It's adequate for most I'd say.

Buy a Golf or something else OP those Focus are balls of dirt!

Adequate is a relative term depending on who's using it but you could apply the same logic to a tv or mobile phone. Gone are the days where a basic picture or phone call are adequate, the world has moved on for those who want more than adequate. And the point I'm trying to make is that of course condition is more important but if the main reason to buy the lower spec car is only because it's in better condition than the other car, then imo go look at a 3rd or 4th car. This isn't the 1980s or the car isn't a unicorn, you can afford to be a bit fussy about what you buy.
