    Hi,

Ive been off work very incapacitated for the last year. I have been receiving the standard gov disability payment of e790 a month. I have just been told my payment protection plan will finally start paying out(after months of fighting) it will only be paying out e700 a month (i thought it was worth more than that. Anyway will that mean i am no longer entitled to the gov allowance??
If thats the case i would have been better off closing my appeal months ago as the stress really hindered my healing.

What does the "standard government disability payment of €790 a month" mean?

Are you getting Illness Benefit which is paid at €198.00 per week? If so then why not just say so? It's much easier for us to try to help you if you help us by telling us what you're getting!

If you’re getting illness benefit then you can keep it for up to 2 years, it doesn’t matter what other income you have as it’s not means tested.

    Thanks!

You are getting Illness Benefit on the strength of the PRSI contributions that you made in the past, hence it isn't a means-tested payment. This means that the fact that you will also get a payment from a payment protection plan won't affect payment of your IB.

Note however that both payments are liable for income tax, so you will need to tell revenue about the income from your PPP (the DSP will tell revenue about your IB).

Ok thank you very much for the information.

I wasn't aware of the revenue /income tax aspect. Good to know also

I don't think you were getting illness benefit because if you had to appeal a decision on Disability it means you were getting Disability Allowance which IS means tested. Better check and see what payment you were actually getting because I never heard of an appeal on Illness Benefit.
