    Hi,

Noticeably getting difficult to change lower gears in our Renault fluence. It started happening about 6 months ago and I took it into the garage who said they couldn't find an issue.

However it's got much worse now and very noticeable, so would appreciate some advice in two questions

    1) I am assuming this is an issue in the gearbox which will likely need replacing, an expensive job ?

    2) the car is still under warranty (just about) under 5 year warranty. Would something like this be covered under a warranty or is it wear and tear. There are approx 160k kilometers in the clock, so around about 100,000miles

If it's still within Renault warranty, the gearbox should be covered.

However, it sounds to me like the clutch isn't releasing fully (which probably wouldn't be covered)

    Thanks

If it was the clutch, would that not affect all gears rather than lower gears only ?

Most of the time it's the gear cables causing it. A good few fluences come in with that problem. It should be done under warranty

Well, they said they couldnt find anything wrong, and I stupidly left it at that.

Warranty expired october, and the problem has now gotten significantly worse, with renualt refusing now to cover it as the warranty has expired. Appealed it direct to renault, with no luck,

Just to keep people aware, reliability wise, here are the problems we experienced with our renault fluence since purchase nearly new from dealerhsip, and with full renault service history.
2 x Anti Roll Bar Links
Timing belt went at 120k (well in advance of replacement requirement)
Wiper UPC (Motor I think ?)
    EGR Valve
    Drivers Side window regulator
    Passenger side window regulator
Gear change issues (cant change, or difficult to change lower gears).

The last 2 items, Renault are refusing to deal with as above.

I've moved your other thread on the same subject to the main forum as it's not DIY related and I'm closing this one.
