Duplicate Proceedings

Hi all, not looking for legal advice, just around actual rules.

Is it permitted for a respondent in a case to make a duplicate application for the same matter (family law - district court). I have an application for courts direction on a passport matter and I have been given a date at the end July.

The respondent in the case made an application after service of mine for the exact same thing and somehow has an earlier date at the same court house (Dublin 2). My own application is tied in with a custody related application and I ideally don't want it dealt with separately prior to that.
