    Hi all

there other night i kerbed my tyre going into a dark estate
on examination today there is a slight cut in a small piece of the tyre ..I actually think it could be glued back
my question is would it be safe to continue with this or just bit the bullet and replace it ?

I have a small chunk missing from the sidewall of a rear tyre. Brought it to my locale tyre place with the intention of getting it replaced, but they said it was fine. It wasn't deep, and it also passed the NCT the next day. So it all depends on the extent of the damage. For peace of mind, bring it to a tyre fitter and ask them.

    Put up a photo.

If it's deep replace, if there is a bulge replace.

If it is in the sidewall I'd get a professional opinion. The sidewall is not as strong as the flat of the tyre.

Get it checked . If it's only surface damage it will be ok if it's even a few mm crack your going to want to replace it . Especially if your doing high speed driving. The thing is that this is now a week point in the wall of the tyre ( if it's even a few mm crack) as under fast driving your tyre will flex a lot and at some point will develop the into a bigger crack then pop. Keep it on if your the only one in the car and you don't drive very fast.

When you lift that flap can you see any cords?
If you can see any white threads then its worth replacing.
As it stands it looks like quite deep damage, i'd replace it.

Id take it to a tyre centre and ask them. Genuinely do you want that going bang when your doing 120 on a motorway?

I personally had a flap like that cut out of my tyre as I was driving to the last NCT, the guy looked at it and said it would be fine as it hadn't cut any cords. After I inspected it myself I was satisfied that it was OK and kept driving it until the tyre wore out.
I would be fussy enough with tyres.
Its your choice though at the end of the day.

It's not deep it's only the surface rubber it will be fine. Keep it till it's bald.

i was suspecting a replacement .. as its a front wheel drive would i get away with replacing just one ?

I'd replace that. It's not so much the damage you see but it would appear that possibly the tyre got a severe enough pinch along the kerb when doing that damage that might have damaged the inner structure.
