Confirm marriage record from year 2000

I wonder if anyone can please advise the quickest & best place to confirm if a marriage exists or not?
Person A is claiming they were married to person B in a civil ceremony in 2000. We doubt this is true but don't want to alert person A to the fact that their lie has been found out. Sadly person B died soon after so we're unable to ask them. We only have a rough idea of the month & year & location "Dublin".
    Any help greatly appreciated.

Marriage certs are a matter of public record. Anyone can obtain a copy here - https://www.hse.ie/eng/births-deaths-and-marriages/get-certificates-online/get-a-marriage-certificate/

If person A has come forward and now is demanding an entitlement ( part of an inheritance, a SW payment, access to a property etc.) on the basis that they are lawfully entitled due to having been married to person B, then they won’t realize that entitlement until they produce evidence of the legal marriage having taken place. This evidence would be a marriage certificate.
SW in particular have access to all births deaths and marriages records and a widows pension for example won’t be awarded until they can see proof that the claimant was married. People married abroad must produce a civil marriage cert from that country.
If someone is challenging a will on the grounds that they are a hither unknown spouse then the judge won’t consider the challenge without proof, obviously.
If this is just an argument amongst family or folk then you will find it difficult to disprove a lie unless you have the exact date and place of the marriage.
