Done Deal

I have privately contacted a seller about a car on done deal and the NCT and tax checks are fine and the reg was posted etc.

I have a couple of red flags though, it has had three previous owners and now the seller wants to meet at the train station when I asked where exactly he lived.

Should I even bother viewing it or should I just walk away now?

What kind of car is it, year, mileage? Any link to the ad?

What year is it? 3 owners is probably nothing to worry about. I'd never sell a car from my house because you don't know who the person potentially buying the car is

    Link Here.

Yeah I did think of that alright. Just from the done deal FAQ/Tips page it said its usually done from the sellers house so wondering how much of a hard and fast rule that is.

I have bought and sold a few cars via Donedeal over years. I have never once agreed to meet someone at my house as if the sale goes through (or not) then someone knows you could have a couple of grand cash in the house. Also, cars bought on DD are sold as seen so I wouldn't want someone disputing a sale afterwards knowing where I live.

One trick I have learned is to say to the person that you want to meet in the car park of the local Garda station - I have had a lot people who were initially very interested then suddenly lose interest when doing this.

As for that sale you linked, the seller has been on DD for a few years so its as good an indication as your going to get that they are ok.

Make sure you bring a mechanic and get the car fully checked out though.

Its an 07 car, 3 owners over 11 years is low!

I would never meet someone at my house either, that is not a red flag, that's someone being sensible and not knowing who you are and therefore not wanting you arriving at their house, completely normal and common.

Thanks for this, I was going off the done deal faq/best practice but wanted to check what people usually do. This has been helpful, thank you!

At the end of the day the buyer will need to see the logbook before purchase unless they are an idiot, if seller wants to keep their home address private they should stick to flogging it at an auction.

Unless I'm buying off a dealer, I'll want to meet at the sellers house eventually to sign the logbook and take ownership of the car. Will want the sellers name and address to be on the logbook also.

No logbook, said his friend is a mechanic and has been doing the work for him.

Opened hood, bit of smoke coming out!

There is plenty more cars out there. Post a new thread with your budget and needs and you'll be found some great suggestions.

I wouldn't make the first contact at my address, but if we agree to proceed and there is nothing fishy in the buyer, they will get tea offered when they sort out the insurance.

There are so many cars for sale out there that I think you should just keep looking until you find a car that you are comfortable with, and a seller you are comfortable with.
