A great PPV lined up, hopefully bus windows remain intact.

Looking at this years PPV's, I really enjoyed the first one, Stipe/Ngannou. The one in the Barclays Center was shaping up great 48 hours beforehand but went astray, but the 3 other PPV's were poor, they could have passed for Fight Nights

This one, however, is a great card from top to bottom, looking forward to pretty much every fight.

That looks like a nice card to me, I'm not sure though if that's a good thing since the names I'm most interested in are all well past it at this stage

I don’t care what anyone says, I can’t wait for the Punk fight! :pac:

I had no idea Punk was fighting, I heard he was testifying in court just a few days ago, that is not an ideal preparation

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,282 ✭✭✭✭RobbingBandit

Punks been training for months for this fight the court case has been coming for ages so I'd say it's a distraction for him but not so much so, hope he gets a few shots in this time Jackson should be less of a challenge than Gall was but seeing as both have been beaten by Gall it kinda makes this a run off fight really.

Looks like a good card, really looking forward to the RDA v Covington fight.

I'm watching the UFC Countdown for this and it know it's been said multiple times before, but Romero is a best. He's 41 for crying out loud. The slow motion of him sprinting is unreal.

Very good card for what seems like ages since I've thought that. I will enjoy getting drunk and watching this from near the start. Hoping RDA folds up Covington. Pettis vs Benavidez on the fight pass prelims is a weird one, stick those unranked heavyweight lads down there.

In all fairness though - Romero is probably my favourite fighter other than McGregor or Barboza.

    Hope he wins

I love Romero but I think I love Bobby Knuckles more. Animal

You know it's a good card when the event thread is up before Saturday.

Stacked card, one to stay up for even. I just hope RDA renders Colby unconcious.

His cheating turned me off him tbh.

Ya, he was on thin ice with me after the stool stuff at the end of the round against Kennedy and stuff. Coupled with the fact he’s juicing obv is bad.

Great to watch though - his KO of Weidman especially was phenomenal

Dear God, if that right landed the octagon would have imploded.

Like those hammer fists of terror landed on Todd Duffee.

I've no idea how good Jackson realistically is at this point.
    But I'm pretty sure that;
    a) Punk must be better than he was last time
    b) Jackson is not nearly as good as Gall

So it might not be a close fight, but it will be closer than the last one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,710 ✭✭✭✭Paully D

Jackson is easily the second worst fighter on the entire UFC roster, BUT, his striking is still on another level to anything Punk could be bringing to the table even if he was to have improved ten-fold since his last outing.

Jackson should stop him on the feet.

Punk gets his $500,000 show money and probably walks out with $1m+ after all income is accounted for like last time.

Just caught up on the embeddeds, has Colby always been that cringeworthy? I’m struggling to remember hear him speak in the past

    Yes

Punk not doing the Open Workouts is the equivalent of a shít movie/video game having a review embargo until the day of release.

This can't go well...even though I'm pulling for him to win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,265 ✭✭✭✭The Nal

Punk has had nearly 2 years to improve. A lot of time to do nothing but train in MMA. Same to be said for Jackson of course but they're both amateurs. Hopefully it'll be a really sloppy slug fest with a funny KO.

Weigh-ins were due to start at 3pm Irish time but it looks like we are underway already.

Ariel doing his whispering golf commentary on here.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SYNW_xe2KY

edit: nope, that was some copycat called Mark, Ariel arrived in late looks like the early start caught him too. Made a joke saying thanks for the notice.

CM Punk at 169 anyway. Holly looks in great shape.

Half following the stream, seems like Romero might have a bit of trouble making weight. Ariel talking about he will have 2 hours extra to make weight if he misses it first time round.

edit: Romero 186, so has 2 hours from now to lose the extra pound.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,750 ✭✭✭ASOT

Yoel a lb over, has 2 hours to lose it. The lads were nearly a bit slow with the towel. Nearly got an eye full of the other soldier of god.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,395 ✭✭✭✭Frank Bullitt

2 hours for 1lb, its doable anyway.

I wouldn't be quick to blame the two lads for it, it looked to me like Yoel removed his cacks without due care and attention, was bordering on reckless removing of cacks.

He could prob lose 3-4 lbs if he launched his Cuban missile.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,405 ✭✭✭Lukker-

Anyways I hope Yoel makes weight, kills the tension when the strap isn't on the line

Would be twice in his last 2 title fights that he'd have missed weight

I had forgotten that was for the strap as he’s not the interim champ now

Yeah in fairness that’s the only time he’s missed weight but it has to be harder at his age

Hes some unit in fairness, I warmed to him abit after all the bisping videos. Still hope Bobby puts on a clinic. Hes some size aswell watching embedded, everyone 100% slept on him when he moved up weight.

Bobby has certainly grown into his new weight class. As has RDA imo

    185.2 for Romero now.

FFS, that's a balls. But he has missed weight before so only himself to blame.

UFC is turning into a farce with all these missed weights, needs sorting

More weight classes is the only realistic solution.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 988 ✭✭✭brendanwalsh

They started weigh ins at 8.40am
Seems so arbitrary. Yoel would have made it if the weighs were later. Guys get no extra chance to cut if they wake up heavy

Surely Dana can say **** it and keep is as a title fight as he did with the Khabib v Ragin Al title fight in Brooklyn.

    It's not UFC's fault.

More weight classes is the only realistic solution.

Is it? or will people still cut large amounts even then?

I'd say they'll still cut large amounts.

Right now they have 2 big holes between classes. They should scrap WW and add a 165 and 175 lb division, and also a 195 lb division. The 15 lb gaps mean you have guys really worried they are gonna be undersized for their natural weight class, this normalizes things a bit.
