NCT failure on emissions 2004 Focus 1.4 petrol

    Could anyone help me to diagnose the above, it's failed on both low and high idle test with the following numbers:

    Low idle:
    CO 0.79% Vol (above 0.30% fail)
    HC 240ppm

    High idle:
    Lambda: 1.02 (pass, between 0.97 and 1.03)
    CO 0.80% vol (above 0.20% fail)
    HC 238ppm (above 200ppm, fail)

    The choke warning light has perpetually been on on this car (or is it the Lambda sensor light?)

    Car had a new catalytic converter fitted about 6 years ago. Mileage is currently at 186k miles.

    There are no untoward sounds coming out of the exhaust, so I don't think the exhaust is leaking.

    Could this be a simple fix like a bottle of Dipetane, or else a new Catalytic converter?

    It won't be the choke light because petrol cars haven't had those for the past 25 years at least. It's the engine malfunction light that's on. This comes in when there is a problem with the exhaust emissions (as your NCT results show). Get it scanned and see what the codes are.

    Don't think it will be a leak in exhaust as it passed Lambda.

    Could be a small leak as it's running a bit lean.

    I would say it's the catalytic converter but the truth is the OP needs to get a garage to scan the car for fault codes (the engine light is on), none of us know for certain until we see what the fault codes are.

    It's running Way too rich.

    Could be as simple as a vacuum leak or a blocked air filter
