Refurbished laptops

    Hi,
    Was thinking of getting the missus a laptop for her b day. Im a touch hesitant about going refurbished but have known a few people who went down this road and it went great.
    Any tips or suggestions? Laptop wont be getting heavy use but I would like to pick up something pretty solid.
    Makes and models suggestions that appear pretty bullet proof are appreciated.
    I'd be happy enough to part with 400 -500 if it was a known solid machine (within reason, electronics are a fickle thing).
