    Hi,

My indicators started acting up a couple of days ago and now almost completely dont work..might flick on once or twice the clicks off completely. Hazards do the same, one or 2 clicks then nothing...

Its not the fuses as I have checked those, any suggestions on what it might be or if I can fix it myself?

    Thanks...

If it was a fuse it would have no power at all.
My guess would be the indicator relay.
Actually I’d be fairly confident that that is what it is.

I'd be for relay too if it is the same for hazard and indicators functions.

If it does turn out to be an indicator stalk and hazard switch at the same time then thats just rotten unbelievable luck.

Try a new relay and see how you get on.

Before I tear the car apart, can anyone tell me if the relay is behind the hazard switch or behind the panel under the steering wheel?

The relay is part of the hazard switch.

Flasher unit surely is it.did it make a few strange clicking sounds and then stop.sometimes if you bang it a few times it will work for a day but you need a new flasher unit I reckon.did one here lately on a van.it looked like a large square box fuse and was in the fuse box. If it still lets out the odd click it’s easy to locate it by following the sound or google flasher unit for that model.

On mk4 golf based cars the relay for the indicators is built into the hazard switch - it's a 2 min job.

Ha ha haven’t heard anyone call it a flasher unit in like forever. It’s being years since I heard that.

But all joking aside yes it’s the relay for sure as I said earlier.

Yeah the flasher unit we call it here in the Wild West.whatever it is with me and cars and vans I’ve done one in most of the ones I’ve owned.you hear the funny offset clicking for starters then the indicator goes tittys up shortly after and it’s off to find a flasher unit then and fit the fukr

And another side note in the last number of years if I’ve seen one maybe two max being fitted that’s all it’s being. And I’m not joking ya we have a serious amount of cars going out back to there owners each day.

Oi! No need for the name-calling. In retaliation, I could say something sarcastic about taking advice on dodgy indicators from a BMW driver, but I wouldn't. :p:D
