Hey I got a 2009 passat blue motion last week
Love it. So happy, great car

    Just one issue
I can't seem to get the stop/start to work

I read the manual and see there is alot of conditions. It's only worked once in the week I've had it , and it's not turned off

Is there a nack to it, or should I got back to garage?

If the battery is below a certain state of health or if the battery is a lesser spec than was originally intended it won't work. It doesn't take much for it to stop working in fairness.

Most people would be delighted it doesn't work :pac:

Ah no it isn’t that bad you’ll get used to it. If the car is hot inside and the air con is working flat out to cool it the stop start won’t work, if the air is directed to the screen fully, you’re on a steep hill are other situations where it won’t work.

Most people try to code it out, it's more a hassle than anything else.

I know no one that's coded it out. I've never had a problem with it driving 4 years with start stop it is what it is , a fuel saver

"Most people " might be a bit of an exaggeration.

I would recommend not using it on a diesel at all. Fair enough on 3L petrol in city driving, but all in all its useless forced upon the customer by the carmakers so they can twist the true mpg value and emissions returns.

It's an absolute annoyance. Don't have it myself and in my opinion the only cars that should have such systems are ones that have hybrid systems that allow the car to drive away for some distance on electricity alone. It is then a nice thing to have but this idea of a rattling diesel jumping back to life to move a car length then switching off again is nuts as far as I'm concerned.

If you don't have it yourself how does it annoy you? You can press the over ride button for those situations. I have it myself on a dsg car and it can be annoying at times. I found it much more controllable in a manual car.

Its utterly useless... On my A4 you have to disable it every time you start the car by pushing a button.

I never even knew my Passat had this until I changed the battery and it kicked in, old battery mustn’t have been able for it. I don’t do much town driving anyway but when I do I find it irritating and switch it off.

Because I drive other cars than my own and I know it to be a silly silly system.

Have stop/start on our Mini and now on our new Octavia diesel. Works invisibly.

But both of those cars are newish - I wouldn't fancy it on a 10 year old car that is sometimes slow to start on the key, like my old Smax diesel...

It will just disable itself if things aren't 100%
