so i got a letter the other day from the dole asking for my father's bank statement and a payslip . He's already on social welfare and i'm only getting a reduced payment of 95 a week when the full amount is 107 for those under 24 , the balance on his bank statement was not past 20,000 but i'm not sure if that applies to someone under 24 , should i get the full amount or will i be getting an even greater reduced payment quite worried about this i'm starting a 6 month full time course in the next month but need some money for the next week , my dad said there's nothing to worry about but i am quit nervous they could reduce it

It won't matter that you're under 24, rules are rules.

It will all be fine and best of luck with your studies, hope you find decent employment in the future.

Umm why did you make a duplicate thread when you already have one posted more than half an hour ago..........

someone suggested moving to another topic , and no one on that was given a proper answer that i was looking for and the majority of questions about the social welfare appear under the topic , after hours

yes i know that about being under 24 , but even for someone under 24 the full rate is 107.70 i only get 95 a week and when i first signed on my father was working and was getting almost twice the amount he's getting on welfare now and my mother only receives children's allowance for my younger brother , and the bank statement my father gave me was below 20 grand so i assume everything will stay the same

Why can't you get a job with the course you did?

I thought you said you did a warehousing course, or a forklift driver's course?

yes i finished a warehousing course a few weeks ago in which i got my forklift license out of , but my forklift license hasn't arrived in the post yet i'm waiting on that , sorry for the confusion

So you'll get a training allowance, right? What's the issue? You'll get a payment based on satisfactory attendance, and then start paying into the system once you've successfully completed the course?

What's the issue? You're on a payment of fuqall a week, which you're worried might be reduced to slightly less fuqall a week, but you have an opportunity to move onto something solid. Get stuck in.

I'm still not clear why you can't look for a job in that area, rather than doing another course.

i do look for jobs in that area i've applied for like 7 or 8 different warehousing jobs since i finished my course , i want to the computer maintenance course because it would be a good qualification to have and i want to do it , like if i got offered a job i'd take it yeah and i do apply for jobs it's just at the moment i want to get this course done

I know it's a bit off topic but there's an excellent thread on here that's updated most days about free Udemy courses, fairly sure it's in the computers section.

I know you'll likely be busy with your main studies but often times there's very useful courses listed on there reduced from full price to €0 just for that day or even a few hours, deffo worth a look I think.

Also, if you're getting into the computer repair side of things, it may be worth your while having a look at phone repairs too, check AliExpress for cheap tools needed to disassemble iPhones, can be a decent income stream to tide you over.

Start investigating eCommerce and affiliate marketing now, I turned my nose up these back in the early 2000's and sorely regretting it now. Start a YouTube channel and a Facebook fan page about something you like and slowly build it up.

Start listening to the Tim Ferris podcast, along with the Jocko Willink podcast, I'm sure some here will say I'm talking crap but I honestly think those podcasts will help. Get their books too, well worth a read, check out Gary Vaynerchuck too.

Anyway, sorry that went off on a major tangent but I'm just trying to let you know that there is more than just the 9 - 5 drudgery on the horizon for you if you are willing to learn.

Either way, best of luck to you in the future :)

I must say I am really shocked to read some of the posts here. I trained and got my degree in Nursing, went to do another degree but fell through after a year and was then out of work for a year and a half. I then went on to do TUS which led to full-time employment, thankfully. All the time unemployed, I took regular courses with my local ETB which greatly benefit me over another TUS employee for my current role.

I just wanted to say, well done to you OP for actually getting off your butt and doing something useful! Every course helps, every bit of training and upskilling and learning helps! Don't let anyone try to change your mind about that or put you down for doing something. You are right about people sitting on their bums all day everyday, running to the post office to collect a payment and heading back to the sofa.

Fair play to you for wanting to put in effort and actually thinking about courses, rather than sitting around.

I can't answer your questions re your monies but I would suggest going to your local ETB and request a meeting with an advisor who would be much more helpful in answering those questions for you than welfare. In my opinion, welfare want to stop you progressing. But I would like to wish you all the best in your course, I hope you gain something from it (which you will) and best of luck for your future.

6 month's full time is a lot of time to invest when you are 24 for a nice to have that doesnt seem to be what you want to work at. You could be starting a career.. If you can get an entry job in this field you would be far better off.

Maybe consider building up some real world experience instead by volunteering with these IT places

You will probably learn as much or more in a week.

But if it's something you really want to do then go for it - it's a great field to be in.
