    Maybe I am wrong but it looks like houses are fed from the outside lines and looped in and out using a 16sq cable.

    Are houses looped together or how does that work if they are looped on a 16sq cable? Surely that would overload with two houses

    Currently depending on the length of the run ESB networks use 25sq and 35sq concentric aluminium cables to supply domestic installations. Of course in older parts of the network when the electrical load was much less, smaller cables were used.
