    Hi All,

My mam recently became extremely sick (serious underlying issue that was never diagnosed) and spend the best part of a month in hospital, a lot of that in intensive care. Pretty much she was lucky to be found when she was or it would have been the morgue I'd have been going to visit her in  She is on the road to recovery.

Anyway, she is a director in her own company and as such is a S class PRSI employee. So I know she doesn't qualify for the normal state benefits an A class employee would get. Is there anything she can apply for?

I heard something about the intro centre? She can apply for income support I think they called it. She can also apply for rent support but her landlord takes cash and wont give us anything to show she is paying the rent.

It's annoying because she does pay her portion of PRSI, its just the employer part that doesn't get paid over. She has worked since she left school and now she needs a little bit of help there is nothing for her!

    Any help appreciated.

If she’s been paying S stamp for a while and she’s unlikely to work for the next 12 months then she should apply immediately for invalidity pension.

Thanks, she'd have enough S stamps but she wouldn't meet the other criteria, she hasn't been out of work for 12 months and she's not going to be permanently incapable of work. It will probably take 3/4 months to get her back to full strength.

I know it makes me sound incredibly selfish but I am not really in a position to help her out. I live a good few hours away so she cant move in with me, well she can but I know she probably wouldn't want to. I also can't really afford her rent/ bills I'm not on a great salary and it's all pretty much tided up. I'm an only child so there aren't a few of us to split it out between. I could always get a 2nd job for a few months I suppose, but I am still studying towards professional exams so I don't know if I have the time.
