Hi, I’ve just become unemployed :-( , I’m just short of stamps for benefit so will be getting unemployment allowance. My son has just finished a yr long plc course and will be going to uni in September. I can’t get the child dependent rate for him now, does anyone know , if I’m still unemployed in sept will I get it for him then and any chance they’ll backdate it to now.

If he’s under 22 then the answers are yes and yes as long as your partner is earning less then €300 per week

Thanks, I’m single, so no other income. He’ll be 20 in Oct. hopefully I’ll be working again before then.

Hi, you will not be able to claim for your son until Sept when he starts his new course. He can make a Jobseekers Allowance claim in his own right as he is finished his PLC and has not started college yet and when he signs off to go to college you claim for him then,

I was told he can’t make a claim for 3 months after finishing his course.

That is if you are just finished your Leaving Cert . If he is finished his PLC course he is entitled to make a claim.
