Calf pains while jogging.

    I `ve started up jogging/walking again, but I`ve always gotten calf pain while jogging and it stays when I start to walk.

    I`ve not been able to ease the pain or get rid of it unless I stop altogether.

    I`m not a large dude, average build if anything.

    I`ve tried foam rolling them, stretching before, during and after jogging/walking, using a tennis ball around the painful areas, compression, massage, ice and it does`nt seem to do much.

    Do I need to just keep doing the above and over time it`ll work itself out?

    Is there anyone else who has had the same pain and found a solution?

    Runners are fairly new.

    How is your foot and leg strength? How is your hip knee and ankle mobility? How is your running form?

    Foot and leg strength I guess are average, hip knee and ankle mobility are ok.

    My running form is probably bandy, when I run I try to find down on the ball of my foot, as easy as I can, but I think I sound kinda loud while running, like a dinosaur with cement shoes, lol.

    Do you run with thick running shoes on too?

    If your landing heavy that probably answers the question. Most people will recommend fancy shoes or insoles but it is just putting a cast on the issue. If your landing heavy spend some time working on form and landing softly. There are plenty of good things to look at for that if you want to such as the Pose method or Chirunning.

    OP it could be lots of things.

    But you say you've only started, that's most likely the problem.

    Its natural to get aches in muscles and joints, even when you're seasoned. I think my aches and pains only go after about 2-3km.

    Maybe back off the amount you're doing, or download a couch to five k app and follow that, they're fantastic.

    I had same problem when I started running again after a decade long layoff.
    It improved a little bit with time but without a doubt getting fitted for the right runner was what turned the corner, I over pronate but was in neutral runners. Changed to proper stability runners and haven't looked back since.
    Sometimes get sore after a long run but I think that's to be expected.
    Def get a gait analysis done in a good sports shop to see what shoes you should be running in.

    I've backed down a bit, then stopped jogging and the pains are there, I think there slowly easing off.

    I'm already using C2K, I find it great.

    Maybe take a complete break for a week then start back, but go back a few days on the app?.

    You could try grass too (running on it, not smoking it :pac: )

    Best of luck with the app, that's how I started jogging. I done a C25k and when I completed that I done the 5 to 10k.

    I'd been diagnosed with type II diabetes, dropped six stone and my diabetes is all but gone and the doc is thinking of taking me off meds.. So you see, I love those C25k apps :)

    I had the same issue recently.

    I went out and did a 5k without stopping, but I hadn't gone out running in over a year. I'd been doing other exercise (weights and cardio) but not actual running. The calf pain started around the 2km mark and didn't let up and I was in bits after and for the next 2 days.

    The next 5k, same thing but recovered after a day.

    3rd run, no issues and nothing since.

    Any seasoned runners I spoke to said I just went out doing too much to start with.
