So need a new laptop,; will mainly be doing some design work (Photoshop/Illustrator etc) but nothing too intense or taxing. Other than that mostly just watching Netflix. Was going to get the XPS as it has a good rep but then I noticed the Inspiron 7000 and it seems to have similar specs but almost 400 cheaper.

Both have an i7 processor and dedicated NIVIDA graphics card; I'm assuming the XPS ones are superior on both accounts but I really don't know enough.
What ya reckon; worth shelling out the extra dosh?

XPS has a much better graphics card, smaller faster SSD, and is lighter. Might have longer battery life if you get the smaller battery in 7000. The 7000 has better CPU and more storage.

Will you notice the difference, I'm thinking no. you can usually see these laptops in PC World if you want to check out weight, keyboard and screen.

I preferred the trackpad on the 7000 when I last tried them. But they change the model so often its hard to know which model you're actually looking at. The XPS and 7000 have been around for about 2~3 yrs with incremental changes each year.

Have a look at the Inspiron 7000 gaming, cheaper than the XPS with better specs, generally. I bought one last week with an I7 7700HQ, GTX 1060 MaxQ 6Gb which is far superior to the XPS's 1050, 16Gb RAM, 256GB SSD and a 1TB HDD, all for €1,078 in the Dell May sale.

The gaming one is great bang for buck. I'll probably get one myself. However it will be a lot heavier and the screen won't be as good.

The inspiron with the 1060 graphics card is a great price but sadly no longer available at that price.
